Program for performance of Elijah, December 2, [1863]
New Haven Concert Programs Collection, Irving S. Gilmore Music Library
Elijah has been a cornerstone of the oratorio repertory since its premiere in 1846. Here we see the program for a performance in Hartford in 1863. The conductor, James G. Barnett, was one of Connecticut’s leading musicians. He received an honorary doctorate from Yale in 1867, and his papers now belong to the Gilmore Music Library. He died in 1885.
