Robert Shaw (1916–1999) was the most renowned choral conductor of the 20th century. His papers include about 2,000 annotated scores, as well as countless letters and photographs. They also contain several batons. The one displayed here is in pristine condition, but some of the others have multiple rubber bands knotted around the handle; apparently Shaw did this in order to get a better grip.
